They forced 20 turnovers and stole the ball from Tennessee Tech eight times. WKU did lose the rebounding battle and committed too many fouls late in the game, keeping Tennessee Tech at the free throw line. Adbelgawad led the game in scoring and rebounds and was the standout performer of the day despite the loss. No other Lady Topper scored in double digits. Abdelgawad said she encouraged her teammates to play with energy and to continue playing defense while they were struggling offensively.

We have to be able to keep playing with energy on the court. The Lady Toppers dominated Tennessee Tech early in the opening quarter. WKU began the quarter on a run, but Tennessee State found their offensive rhythm halfway through the first frame.

The Lady Toppers won the quarter Abdelgawad had 12 points in the first quarter alone. The first quarter would be the only time that WKU outscored Tennessee tech. Both sides scored 14 points in the second period and the visitors switched from a full-court defense to half-court to try and slow the Lady Toppers down.
